There are two types of Certification...

Certified Professional Secretary (CPS)®

To attain the CPS rating, a secretary/admin must meet certain educational and work experience requirements and pass a three-part one-day examination. The CPS Examination is administered the first Saturday of May and November. More than 60,000 administrative professionals have achieved the CPS rating since its inception in 1951.

Certified Administrative Professional (CAP)®

To attain the advanced CAP rating which was introduced in 2001, an administrative professional must meet certain educational and work experience requirements and pass a four-part, one and one-half day examination. The CAP exam is administered twice annually – the first Friday and Saturday of May and November.

Exam Details

The CPS exam is a one-day exam with three parts. The CAP exam is a one and one half day exam with four parts.

Parts 1-3 CPS and CAP exams:
Finance and Business Law
- 30% economics, 35% accounting, 35% business law

Office systems and administration
- 50% office technology, 25% office administration, 25% business communication

Management
- 36% behavioral science in business, 19% human resources management, 45% organizations and management.

Part 4 - CAP exam:
Organizational Planning
- team skills, strategic planning, advanced administration.
